Practical laundry care tips

  • Sorting

Always treat white and coloured laundry seperately.

  • New laundry pieces

Whenever you wash brand-new textiles for the first time make sure that the maximum possible temperature is not used immediately.

Wash new goods at a low temperature before use. This prevents a high degree of shrinkage and retains the smoothness of the fabric.
New coloured linen pieces may contain excess dye. Therefore wash seperately, if necessary several times.
To prevent discolouration do not lay wet pieces next to each other.

  • Care symbols

Make sure that you follow the advice on our care labels. The temperature of the wash liquor is of great importance. It should be set within the range indicated on the care symbol up to the maximum temperature.

  • Bath ratio - loading of washer and drier

Of crucial importance for a perfect wash and for gentle treatment of your linens.
The ratio between dry linen in kilos and wash liquor should be 1:5, i.e. for 1 kilo of linen 5 litres of wash liquor.
Do not under any circumstances load washing machines with too much linen. Overloading leads to shrinkage, increased formation of creases, greying and disappointing wash results as well as early wear and tear by accelerated deterioration of the fabric.

  • Detergent dosing

Follow the detergent dosage prescribed by the detergent manufacturer according to local water hardness and detergent.
With underdosage limescale deposits can appear on the laundry which lead to textiles becoming harder to the touch and a reduction in the degree of whiteness with white washing and colour shade changes with coloured washing. Also calcified laundry is subjec tear and stains are more difficult to wash out.
Reduce the detergent accordingly with smaller loads.

  • Soaking

Older dried and so-called burnt on stains due to washing mistakes are significantly more difficult to remove than fresh ones. It is therefore recommended that dirty laundry should not be left lying around for a long time but should be soaked immediately.
Dried stains with a high content of tannin (wine, fruit) may darken. A special product (tannin remover) is recommended for these stains.

  • Starching

When ironing, starched linen should be damp and have approx. 25 - 30% remaining moisture. Laundry starching: e.g. Saprit starching agent.

  • Colourful and pastel coloured bed and table linen and towels

An undeniable problem with our modern detergents is that they almost all contain optical brightening agents. With white linen this is an advantage in counteracting yellowing but with coloured linen it has a negative effect. The colour shades change with the overlayering of the so-called white shades! So even new textiles can appear washed out after a short time.
What can be done about this? To prevent colour changes your coloured laundry should be washed exclusively with detergent without brightening agents and without the addition of chlorine bleach. This will mean that you retain the full brilliance of your colours.
The temperature of the suds with coloured detergent should be 60°C with normally soiled coloured fabrics made from pure cotton or cotton/modal blend, but it can be increased to 95°C with heavily soiled fabrics.
We recommend not using chlorine and detergent products containing chlorine at all. In this way you contribute to the protection of our environment and increase the life cycle of your textiles.

  • Washing processes

    Type of laundry:
    Coloured: e.g. Taxat color 40°C - 60°C
    Boil wash: e.g. Taxat profi 60°C - 95°C
With a high degree of soiling or stains: Elap Flecken Joker

  • Mangling

Always mangle bed and table linen lengthways (warp direction). By doing this you achieve better dimensional stability.

  • Towels

Towelling is extremely absorbent and absorbs a lot of water when washing. The more water the better the towelling effect.
Do not be too generous with the conditioner and please follow the manufacturer's instructions. Note: With overdosage the conditioner forms a strong film on the fibres and thus reduces the absorbency. The prerequisite for a good effect is that the conditioner is well distributed in the cold rinse water and the textiles are adequately rinsed (e.g. Softenit, Bosit extra).
Cut off pulled threads which have got caught do not pull them out.
